Non-Textile Design: Winter Sparkle Ensemble

Project type

Garment

Date

March 2023

As part of my studies at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, I created a garment made from things other than fabric. This ensemble is made from handsewn snowshoe hare pelts, deerskin lacing, and Swarovski crystal stones.

This piece walked in Boston Fashion Week - Open Runway 2025, following my graduation from MASSART.

This piece was inspired from a visit to Screw Auger Falls in Maine on one of the coldest days of the year - the pagan holiday, Imbolc, celebrated on February 1st. The normally boisterous waterfall was completely frozen, with glittering snow blanketing the landscape in which otters played with each other, and my dog (a Norwegian Elkhound) ran around in the snow. I spent the entire day there, taking in the beauty of winter, from sunrise to sunset. This piece was my way of sharing that beauty with others who may only be familiar with winter as cold and bitter - the beauty of a glittering, frozen waterfall at sunrise should be shared.
