Spider Web Jewelry

Inspired by the beautiful architectural skills of Orb Weavers, this design is the product of a challenge to myself to overcome arachnophobia. While my father and I build an off-grid log cabin in the remote wilderness of western Maine, the Orb Weaver spiders have found themselves quite at home with our camp site.

Each necklace contains a real spider web, which is carefully moved and preserved in a pendant. The first production featured sterling silver plated pendants with 100% sterling silver chains. After my materials were discontinued, I switched to a non-silver bezel, but maintained the silver chain, and could then add laser engraving on the back of the bezel. Earrings are set into solid 925 silver bezels, and on silver earring hooks.

Webs are harvested in August, and then set into pendants with UV epoxy resin. Spiders are not harmed in the removal of the web, and the same web is never taken 2 days in a row, to allow the spiders the opportunity to catch food and eat.
